~ Crisis of Japanese Constitution

2014/08/06

Japan Teachers’ Union held 158th Central Committee on July 17th in Tokyo.

Referring to the fact that the Abe administration changed the understanding of Japanese Constitution at the cabinet meeting, Mr Ryosuke Kato, President of JTU, expressed strongest concern and commented ‘ July 1st, 2014. I wonder that this day will be described in future textbooks as a day when negative history start, or as a day when people are awake as sovereign. This is the very question to us. I strongly believe that this day should be the latter. We have just started this struggle.’ He called to the members that we could not sit back and mentioned ‘It is not politicians whom we appeal to. The Abe administration has concealed its true aims. Therefore, nothing will be changed as long as we make opposing activities against them. It is citizens and ordinary people whom we should appeal to and share this crisis with. Long steady efforts are needed.’

During discussion, the delegates mentioned on various issues; accidents in service at the devastated areas of Great East Japan Earthquake, activities never to occur nuclear plants accidents, harmful influences of standardized tests, classes on Saturdays, and others.

At the closing, we adopted ‘Special Resolution on Declaration of Crisis of Japanese Constitution to never send our children to battlefields.’
